While it may not perform as well as higher-end cooling pads, it 1) has given me no problems, 2) has boosted the performance of my laptop to a visible degree, and 3) is ergonomically designed, in that it slants the keyboard towards the user for easier typing. I had another expensive brand computer. Burned up due to overheating. So I recommend the investment.
